JOB DESCRIPTION: Accounting is a core component of our business and key to our success as one of the world's largest steel producers.
The Accounting organization ensures financial compliance, manages global financial results for external reporting, and provides financial statistics to Big River Steel’s executive team to aid in strategic business decisions.
The Cost Account position will enhance your knowledge and understanding of the accounting field and the relationship between our operations and financial performance.
The Cost Accountant position is responsible for working with the other members of the accounting and operations departments in creating accurate and timely financial information for the organization and preparing tools and reports to assist in the budgeting and forecasting process.
This position is a hybrid position and will require the employee to work in the office location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Create and update financial models and budgets as required by evolving business conditions.
Work with Operations to help ensure the accuracy of information related to costs and inventory.
Work with Operations to create accurate budgets and forecasts that are effective in helping BRS achieve its goals.
Identify cost drivers and develop meaningful metrics used to make business decisions.
Communicate with Operations and Accounting as to variances and the effects of business decisions.
Develop internal controls to ensure complete and accurate financial records.
Coordinate and prepare pertinent information for the Management Team and Auditors.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance overall efficiency.
Perform various month-end closing tasks.
Interaction with internal and external auditors.
Maintain internal financial controls and SOX controls.
Assist in special projects as needed.
Meet strict adherence to deadlines for financial reporting.
Resolve issues independently by understanding and being attentive to detail.
Even though this position will be based out of our corporate headquarters, the candidate must be comfortable working in a plant environment.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business with a concentration in accounting or finance.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
Three to five years of experience in accounting, preferably at a publicly held company or with a public accounting firm CPA preferred.
Excellent MS Excel and MS Word skills.
High attention to detail and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Strong communication, writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills and ability to interact with all levels of management.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects at the same time.
Must be a self-directed individual, eager to learn new concepts and able to drive process and control improvements Experience with Oracle preferred.
