About the Position:
The Supervising Attorney is responsible for the legal actions required in a designated caseload and represents the interests of the State Child Support Program in judicial and administrative hearings, including appeals, in a manner consistent with the provisions of the Code of Professional Responsibility.
The Supervising Attorney also provides leadership, vision and strategic direction to the child support office.
The Supervising Attorney works in collaboration with case managers and specialists, providing legal guidance to ensure actions are legally sufficient and meet State policy and procedural requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with members of the judiciary and court, State and County agencies, and community partner staffs.
Attend and respectfully represent the State IV-D program in all judicial and, as directed by policy, administrative hearings involving Title IV-D cases.
Provide legal advice and counsel on courses of action for child support enforcement in order to ensure fulfillment of contract requirements.
Review consent agreements and other legal documents.
Sign legal pleadings and prepare witnesses for hearings.
Stay up to date on child support law and policy.
Serve as an active team member to ensure a total quality approach.
Provide direction to the child support staff to ensure Veritas HHS fulfills all contract provisions
Participate and collaborate with our county and state partners to ensure positive and productive working relationships
Represent the office and build positive relationships with the Court and community based social service resources
Develop procedures, processes, and methods to manage child support cases in a manner that meets federal timeframes and achieves project goals
Develop short-range plans for program operations and resources
Oversee local management team, ensure development and oversight of operational goals and individual staff performance plans
Manage office facilities and equipment
Assess operational efficiency and effectiveness, helping to implement changes to operational processes, as well as coordinate the introduction of appropriate technologies to drive continuous improvement to ensure contractual obligations are met
Requirements:
Licensed attorney and member of the Tennessee Bar
Experience practicing domestic relations and/or child support law is preferred
Five years’ experience in child support case management or related field is preferred
