Works under minimal supervision.
Documents, processes, and maintains a variety of records relating to the appraisal and assessment of real estate and personal property.
Performs a wide variety of complex technical and specialized accounting and data entry duties required to support the Assessor’s operation.

Minimum Qualifications

1.
Three (3) years of experience in appropriate assessment data, abstracting property appraisals, data processing, or statistical work; AND
2.
High school diploma or possess a GED; OR
3.
Two (2) years of experience in appropriate assessment data, abstracting property appraisals, data processing, or statistical work: and one (1) year of college study; OR
3.
An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.
Prepares and distributes detailed assessment change information, certificates, letters, and reports to Shelby County and all its’ municipal taxing authorities.
2.
Prepares tax certification, as needed.
3.
Prepares a variety of reports from assessment and GIS data for office use, public requests, and outside state, city, and county agencies.
4.
Assists the Appraiser staff with research and analysis of property information within the CAMA computer system.
5.
Processes splits, consolidations, size changes and other Assessor mapping functions ‘to prepare for yearly statutory filing and certification guidelines.
6.
Assists the Appraiser staff by assigning unique property identifying information to permits received from Planning and Development agencies the purpose of valuation of real estate properties.
7.
Enters parcel information into assessment change tracking software programs.
8.
Provides citizens and other Shelby County Government departments information concerning laws and regulations relating to assessment, taxation, the appeal process, and appraisal of real estate and personal property.
9.
Processes and reviews real estate transfer documents, and tax maps, and prepares department files, and types forms, letters, and other related documents.
10.
Assists in preparing assessment notices for taxpayers.
11.
Performs other related duties as required or directed.

Ability to work independently and deal effectively with the public and governmental officials with working knowledge of the operating practices of local government and taxation.

Ability to communicate effectively with property owners, realtors, appraisers, government officials, and township staff members.
3.
Ability to read from a hand-written document and to type proficiently and accurately.
4.
Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail through multistep computer processes completing work accurately.
5.
Processing, indexing, and scanning pictures for real and personal property correction.
6.
Knowledge of property valuation, assessing, or appraising preferred.
Strong math/analytical skills required, (i.
e.
decimals, fractions, and percentage calculations).
7.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of commercial, residential real, and personal property valuation and revaluation work.
8.
Professional approach to customer service and strong interpersonal skills
9.
Aptitude for learning and utilizing a variety of computer programs, databases, and office equipment.
