*Purpose Statement: The Lead Cook is responsible for ensuring nutritious and tasty meals and snacks are prepared following safe and sanitary procedures so that children can grow and develop.

1.
Works closely to supervise other cooking staff in the kitchen to maintain a quality food service operation and working relationship.
2.
Completes and submits food purchase orders which includes food order guide for food purchases and kitchen supplies requiring management approval and purchase all food for the centers.
3.
Ensures that the appropriate quantities of food, in accordance with menus approved by a registered dietician and USDA meal requirements, are prepared and served on schedule daily and assist in any food related activities.
4.
Completes and submits all food service and USDA paperwork as needed and submit USDA paperwork to the Health/Nutrition Coordinator by the 5th of each month.
5.
Maintains and ensures good safety, sanitation and, hygiene practices are being implement daily to meet compliance with the Northwest Head Start/EHS program, Head Start Performance Standards, USDA, state licensing and health departments requirements.
6.
Ensures all required postings are posted in the appropriate area according to procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, USDA, state licensing and health department requirements.
7.
Ensures there is a system for cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen and storage area to always be kept in a clean and sanitary manner.
8.
Communicates with the Health/Nutrition Coordinator concerning any special dietary needs, allergies and formula changes, when information becomes known, to make meal substitutions when needed.
9.
Attends all trainings, workshops and meetings as considered necessary by the Health/Nutrition Coordinator.
10.
Uses personal vehicle to travel to local stores to purchase groceries.
11.
Ensures freezer/cooler temperatures are monitored and documented twice a day, menus are sent home, sippy cups and, bottles are prepared appropriately.
12.
Preserves the confidentiality and integrity of all program information.
13.
