Job Title: Custodial Supervisor
Department: Facility Operations & Maintenance
Job Summary:
The Custodial Supervisor will be responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the facility.
This includes traditional janitorial tasks like mopping and dusting but also requires an understanding of proper handling and disposal of biological waste.
Environmental services technicians often work in shifts around the clock in facilities that are always open.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead team of custodians
Assist with new employee training
Assist with time management of the team to complete tasks promptly
Duties/Responsibilities:
Uses dry dust cloths, high dusting tools, and vacuum cleaner to clean windowsills, blinds, floors, and furniture
Where applicable, move furniture and furnishings to clean area
Demonstrates a complete knowledge of infection control, isolation procedures, and proper operation of cleaning equipment
Maintains age-specific precautions
Dispose of all medical waste, inclusive of hazardous, regulated, infectious, recyclable, and regular appropriate
Ensure adequacy of supplies
Perform a variety of custodial tasks related to cleaning and refurbishing all public areas of the hospital, including lobbies, meeting rooms, always, and restrooms to ensure they are clean, sanitized, and stocked with necessary supplies
Operate a variety of cleaning equipment and utilize a variety of cleaning supplies to perform housekeeping duties
Perform a variety of cleaning and housekeeping tasks related to cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms to ensure their continued cleanliness
Performs related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department
Mix, store and use chemicals safely, according to department standards
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Linen/laundry handling
Lead EVS Tech must exhibit leadership skills and be able to oversee the work of peers and effectively communicate with team members and all levels of management in the organization
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
At least two years of related experience required
Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitation, infectious waste, floor, and carpet care including knowledge of aseptic procedures, detergent/germicide solution and proper use and cleaning of equipment, proper use of safety standards and procedures
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands
Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times
Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
